But what even is ‘double cleansing’ anyway?
You may have seen the 'double cleansing method' on social media or in a magazine, but what exactly is it and why would you want to?
What is it?
Well, 'double cleansing' is exactly that...it's cleansing your face twice; once with an oil based cleanser, and once with a water based cleanser. People who double cleanse report that it helps give them blemish free, even skin.
Why would I do it?
Double cleansing with two different types of products means a super thorough clean for your face. The oil based phase gets rid of make-up, excessive skin oil, suncream and pollution (think oily things that the oil cleanser will dissolve). This then leaves the skin clear for the water based cleanser to work it's magic on impurities like dirt, grime and sweat leaving your face really thoroughly cleansed.
Should I be double cleansing?
If you have oily skin or wear a lot of make up daily then it can be really beneficial to double cleanse daily to ensure that you are removing all traces of excess oil and make up before bed. If your skin isn’t particularly oily, or if you only wear make up occasionally, double cleansing every day probably isn’t necessary. If you have very sensitive skin then care should be taken that the products you are using to double cleanse aren’t harsh and won’t strip your skin too much of its natural oils.
In other words, double cleansing can be for everyone, but like any change in skincare, give it at least 30 days before you decide it’s for you or not!
Anything to consider?
If you are worried that your skin will be stripped too much by double cleansing, make sure you go for gentle, natural products. For example Hedgewild’s Beauty Balm is a pure, natural oil based balm, suitable for sensitive skin. Equally, Hedgewild’s Honey and Oatmeal Bar has been specifically formulated to be gentle yet effective on skin leaving it clean but without that tight, dry feeling.
It is really important to follow up a double cleanse with a good moisturiser to replace oils and form a barrier to lock hydration in.
Suggested before bed double cleanse ritual;
Hedgewild's Beauty Balm - apply a small amount to warm, dry or damp skin, massage in upward, circular motions to remove make up and oils. Wipe away with a warm damp muslin cloth.
Hedgewild's Honey and Oatmeal Soother Bar - lather soap in hands and apply to face, wash off with warm water.
Hedgewild’s Floral Rose Water - spritz face with hydrating, anti-aging rose water.
