British Sea Salt….a skincare secret!
Hi all! I hope you are well?
I thought I would write about one of the amazing ingredients in our skincare range for this month’s blog post…..British Sea Salt!!
We have recently found an incredible new supplier of British Sea Salt; the Dorset Sea Salt Co. located down on the Jurassic coast. They hand harvest Sea Salt from the British waters and turn it in to salt flakes by means of witch craft and magic….well, maybe not, but they do use old traditional methods keeping the environment and sustainability at the forefront of what they do.
So, we all know sea salt is amazing for your chips, or adding a punch to your roasted tomatoes….but it is actually incredibly beneficial for your skin too.
Most of the salt that goes in to skincare products is ‘Himalayan’ (sourced from Pakistan…yup) and ‘dead sea’ (sourced from the Dead Sea!). Both have questionable, polluting, mining and extraction processes and are of course 1000’s of miles away. But here at Hedgewild, we like to keep things local - only using British grown ingredients, and that includes the pure salt we use. And British sea salt has some amazing properties for your skin;
It is mineral rich due to the unique geology of the British coast (mostly calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and sulphur) which can help enhance the texture of your skin, and keep it hydrated.
The mineral profile can also help reduce inflammation, increase blood circulation.
Salt has antibacterial properties which can fend off skin infections.
Salt crystals are a useful exfoliator and can help smooth skin, promote new skin cell growth and even reduce pore size.
It can help balance oil production and help to balance and brighten the skin.
All in all sea salt is an absolute wonder ingredient for skincare. No wonder many skincare experts recommend salt baths or salt products for conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.
You can easily use salt in your own beauty ritual at home, I love…
2 tbsp finely milled pure British salt (try Dorset Sea Salt Co) (you can bash up the crystals if they are too large).
1 tbsp of oil (you can use any oil here, olive, rapeseed, coconut, grapeseed, poppy seed, borage etc - I love poppy seed personally for its brightening, antioxidant properties)
Mix together to form a smooth paste and apply to face.
Leave for 20 mins or so, gently massaging at the end to exfoliate and wiping off with a warm, damp cloth.
OR, if you want the benefits of British sea salt without the faff of above, we have expertly blended two products; our Lavender Sea Salt Scrub is an amazing exfoliator and moisturiser and will leave your skin feeling silky smooth without the need for body cream. And our Lavender, Mint and Rosemary bath salts will help relax and rejuvenate tired minds and bodies at the end of a long day.
So why not give British sea salt skincare a whirl and sea (HA) what it can do for your skin.
I would love to know how you get on with the face mask above or our salt scrub and bath salts. Do leave a comment or review!
